Opening Session (Portuguese)

Full Professor at EPM/UNIFESP, prof. Soraya occupies Chair 36 of the National Academy of Pharmacy. She accumulates several positions during her carrier such as Coordinator of the Graduate Program in Pharmacology at Unifesp, Regional Secretary of the Brazilian Society for the Progress of Science (SBPC), member of the National Directory of the National Association of Directors of Federal Institutions of Higher Education (Andifes), President of the CT Commission at Andifes and President of the Curator Council of the Unifesp Support Foundation (FapUnifesp), member of the Board of Directors of the International Cell Death Society (ICDS), of the Council of the French Alliance, of the Advisory Council of Rede Nossa São Paulo, of the Superior Administrative Council of the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce and coordinates the Science in Health project with the Women of Brazil Group. Dean of UNIFESP between 2013 and 2021, she is nowadays adjunct coordinator of the Center for Global Health at Unifesp and coordinator of the Center for Studies Society, University and Science (SoU_Ciência).

Gene Therapy (Portuguese)

Scientific Researcher at the Instituto de Ensino e Pesquisa do Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein. Graduated in Biological Sciences from the IB / USP, he has a master's degree (2003) and a doctorate (2008) in Immunology from the ICB / USP. He did postdoctoral work in the Department of Immunology at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (2010-2015). Currently, his projects cover the various types of cell death triggered by death receptors, such as apoptosis and necroptosis.

Bioactive agents from microbes, arthropods, and marine invertebrates

Professor Newman was Senior Investigator in the Natural Products Pharmacology Department of the SmithKline & French Laboratories, Philadelphia; Group Leader, Biotechnology, Technical Diversification Department, Air Products & Chemicals Inc., FL: Principal Research Microbiologist, Microbial Physiology Department, Lederle Laboratories, Pearle River, NY; and he was Adjunct (Full) Professor in the Center of Marine Biotechnology, University of Maryland, Baltimore. From 1991 to 2015, he developed his research work at the NCI's Natural Products Branch, retiring as Chief in January 2015.  Author/coauthor of over 180 papers, reviews, and book chapters, Prof. Newman has 18 patents mainly on microbial products and is associated with the NPB/NCI as a special volunteer. as well as has a small consulting business.

Dr Maria Izabel is a researcher from the Endocrinology Department of the Escola Paulista de Medicina - UNIFESPD and has been developing her research at Molecular and Translational Endocrinology from the UNIFESP. 

She is also a member of the Environmental Endocrinology committee of the Brazillian Society of Endocrinology and Metabology -  the SBEM (Sociedade Brasileira de Endocrinologia e Metabologia).

Graduated in Pharmacy from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Master of Science (Cell Biology) from the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation, Doctor of Science (Pharmacology and Medicinal Chemistry) from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and Post-Doctorate in Neuroendocrinology from the Max Planck Institute of Psychiatry. He is currently Associate Professor II at the Institute of Biomedical Sciences of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Permanent Advisor of the Postgraduate Program in Endocrinology of the Faculty of Medicine and the Postgraduate Program in Pharmacology and Medicinal Chemistry of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences of Federal University of Rio de Janeiro,  Acting mainly in the following lines of research: Cellular and Molecular Mechanisms of Action of Endocrine Disruptors and Cellular and Molecular Bases of Pituitary Tumors.

Graduated from the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences of the Federal University of Alfenas (UNIFAL-MG), Doctor Marilia has a master's degree in Clinical Toxicology from the Pharmacokinetics and Metabolism Laboratory of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences of Ribeirão Preto - University of São Paulo ( FCFRP/USP). She has been working in the field of clinical toxicology, with an emphasis on exposure to drugs with enantioselective properties and the use of analytical tools, such as liquid chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) to analyze the kinetic disposition of these drugs and placental transfer studies. Her PhD had an emphasis in Analytical and Environmental Toxicology by the Laboratory of Analytical and Systems Toxicology (ASTox) of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences of Ribeirão Preto - University of São Paulo (USP-RP), with part of her studies performed at the "New York State Department of Health - Wadsworth Center" (Albany - NY - USA), PhD. She works in the areas of analytical methodology development, using different sample preparation methods and is currently a postdoctoral fellow at the Laboratory of Analytical and Systems Toxicology and I-Global visitor at Universitat Rovira i Virgili (URV), Spain.

Sharing experiences: a chat with grads (Portuguese)

Bruna got her bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences in 2011 and has completed her master's degree (2014), her PhD (2018) and a Postdoctoral in Chemical Biology, all at the UNIFESP/Brazil. in 2018, she performed a one-year sandwich doctorate at University of Worcester, UK..

She worked as a Professor at the Anhembi Morumbi University (UAM), School of Health (2021) and she is currently a Medical Science Liaison (MSL) Diabetes at Eli Lilly and Company (2022).

Ana got her bachelor's degree in Chemistry (2013), master's degree (2016) and finally her PhD (2021) in Chemical Biology - UNIFESP/Brazil. She currently is developing a postdoc project at The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Biosustainability (DTU Biosustain) in Denmark as part of the Yeast Natural Products group, which employs a combination of analytical chemistry, phylogenetics, genomics and synthetic biology approaches to assess the chemical diversity in fungal species. Ana has experience in the Chemistry of Natural Products Chemistry, especially in the purification and characterization of secondary metabolites from plants and fungi, as well as dereplication techniques using mass spectrometry and liquid chromatography (UHPLC-HRMS, MS/MS).

Dra. Thais has graduated in Biology (UNIFESP), PhD in Chemistry Biology at UNIFESP, with a period at the University of Florida. She works on animal reproduction at BOVITEQ | IVF, as a Lab Coordinator, since 2011, having an extensive experience throughout the whole process.

Givago got his bachelor in Chemistry from the Federal University of Grande Dourados (Brazil). He got his master's in chemistry and his PhD in Chemical Biology from UNIFESP on the topic of Organic Synthesis and Medicinal Chemistry, developing syntheses of bioactive alkaloids. During his PhD, Givago has been at Temple University (United States) as visiting doctoral student.

Natural products: The development of natural products chemistry told by three generations of Brazilian scientists (Portuguese)

Bachelor in Chemistry by UNIPAM (2008). Master in Chemistry from the Federal University of Alfenas (2010). PhD in Organic Chemistry from UNESP/Araraquara (2013). She held a postdoctoral degree at the Universitè de Genève-Suiça (2014). Claudia joined the Chemistry Department of the Federal University of Maranhão in 2016 and is a permanent professor in the Graduate Programs in Chemistry (PPGQuim-Mestrado), where develops projects in the field of Chemistry of Natural Products with emphasis on isolation, identification, development and validation of analytical methods for the quantification of markers in plants. Additionally, she has experience in techniques such as MPLC-UV, HPLC-PDA, HPLC-ELSD, LC-MS, UPLC/MS/MS and NMR. In 2021, she got the medal Otto Richard Gottlieb, granted by the Brazilian Chemical Society in the Young Talent Category.

Dr Denise Brentan da Silva got her Pharmacy degree (2003), and her Master's degree in Organic Chemistry (2006) from Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul. In 2009, Denise got her PhD in Natural and Synthetic Products University of São Paulo. She is currently a professor at Federal University of Santa Maria and leader of the research group LAPNEM (Laboratory of Natural Products and Mass Spectrometry). She was an assistant professor at the University of Münster (Germany). She got the Prof. Otto Richard Gottlieb medal in 2015 and has experience in the chemistry of natural products, mass spectrometry, MALDI imaging and metabolomics.

Bachelor in Pharmacy and Clinical Biochemistry (1977), from the Federal University of Pernambuco (1977). In 1981, she got her PhD in Chemistry from The City University of London. Quézia is currently a full professor at the Federal University of São Carlos. Her research interests are related to the development of methods, by LC, for quantification/isolation of chiral and achiral compounds. In this context, it presents a list of works oriented toward the development and use of chiral polysaccharide columns, in analytical and preparative scales. She also develops research for the identification of bioactive metabolites, through bioaffinity chromatography and in new models for screening enzyme ligands.
